Occupy Twitter

On November 9, 2011, in New Media, Twitter, by Zaid Rasid

I wrote a post earlier on my blog about the rare possibility that the government could shut down the internet. In the nature of that statement, I have understood that it might seem absurd to even contemplate such a thing happening, over here, in the free west. But that post was spurred on by the movement that was happening in Tiran and Lybia.

What’s the fuss about Google+

On July 6, 2011, in Facebook, New Media, Social Media, by Zaid Rasid

You may have heard that Google is about to launch their own version of a social networking platform, similar to that of Facebook. I haven’t been invited to their small sample of test users and so I haven’t even experienced what it’s like. Even so, I give Google+ maybe a year or so to survive.

TEDx Silicon North: summary

On June 10, 2011, in Conferences, Influencers, New Media, by Zaid Rasid

On May 18th I had the opportunity to attend a TedX event held in Markham, ON. It was run by my friend Tim Shaw and him and his colleagues put on a great event. The speakers were engaging, and inspirational. In fact, the entire Tedx community and planning committee did a great job of orchestrating a smooth event. They do a really good job of tying in the larger TED events so that the whole thing feels cohesive.

Unplugged in Alaska

On May 31, 2011, in New Media, Social Media, by Zaid Rasid

I had a great vacation recently in Alaska and while I was there on a cruise, there came a point where I had no internet access whatsoever. It was something I was prepared for but the difference being, in a remote area like Alaska, you have little to no choice when it comes to checking your email or logging on to Facebook.

Stop calling me and why I hate the phone

On May 11, 2011, in New Media, Social Media, by Zaid Rasid

This post is more of a rant without any heavy duty research. If you remember from one of my earlier posts, I mentioned that writing consistently is key for any blog. Well you can see that even writing once a week can be a challenge. Especially with all of our demands and busy schedules.

The government is about to shut down the internet

On May 1, 2011, in New Media, Social Media, by Zaid Rasid

During the turmoil in Egypt, I remember learning about the government shutdown of the internet. In fact, as I write this, the government of Syria is allegedly employing similar tactics. For someone from the west, I can’t possibly fathom the type of monolithic control that can deny something that is so fundamental.

Get your Tigits here

On March 14, 2011, in New Media, Social Media, by Zaid Rasid

Full disclosure: I’m in no way affiliated with this company and I won’t be making any money by promoting their product. That being said, they’re giving me, and possibly you, a 4 month extended trial of their product called Tigits. Since they’re a start-up, out of Toronto, I thought I’d help them out with some blog love.
