Why the Aerogarden will change search

On April 27, 2011, in SEO, Social Media, by Zaid Rasid

Nevermind Bing, let’s talk salad. The Aerogarden is an indoor aeroponic gardening system that allows anyone to grow herbs, salads and flowers from the comfort of their homes. Well what does this have to do with search?

Maxwell House serves up a cup of Social Media

On March 28, 2011, in Branding, Social Media, Youtube, by Zaid Rasid

The folks over at Maxwell House (Kraft Canada) recently launched an example of a social media campaign that in my opinion deserves some high praise. It’s the type of campaign that get’s me super excited. For one thing, I’m a huge optimist, so the actual message they were sending was inspiring. I mean for most of us, it’s hard to watch an ad and not be inspired by an underdog story or of a little girl, fully immersed with joy and a bright outlook on life.

When Social Media Goes Wrong

On March 21, 2011, in Social Media, Youtube, by Zaid Rasid

What a week we’ve had online. There have been two recent cases where individuals have gained immense popularity through the online world for all the wrong reasons. Both cases involve videos that spread rather quickly. I gave it some thought and I made the decision not to include the actual videos in this post because I don’t want to subject my readers to them. Instead I’ll talk briefly about both situations and I’ll include links to the videos that you can find online and decide for yourself if you want to watch them.

Get your Tigits here

On March 14, 2011, in New Media, Social Media, by Zaid Rasid

Full disclosure: I’m in no way affiliated with this company and I won’t be making any money by promoting their product. That being said, they’re giving me, and possibly you, a 4 month extended trial of their product called Tigits. Since they’re a start-up, out of Toronto, I thought I’d help them out with some blog love.

The Charlie Sheen Dynamic

On March 10, 2011, in Branding, Social Media, Twitter, by Zaid Rasid

The Two and a Half Men saga has turned ugly to say the least. For me it’s disappointing as I’m a huge fan of the show and of Charlie Sheen. I try my best not to judge someone based on information from a third party and I even apply that to celebrities.

But a recent example of a shift in communication has changed the way we are making our judgements. If you haven’t heard, during the turmoil of the whole Charlie Sheen drama, Charlie put together a Social Media strategy and decided to interact with his fans directly. Celebrities have been engaging with their fans on Twitter for a while, but the difference here is that for the first time, we’ve been presented with an alternative perspective. This time, straight from the horse’s mouth.

The Justin Bieber Phenomenon

On February 22, 2011, in Social Media, by Zaid Rasid

I might lose some serious street cred admitting that I went to the opening of the Justin Bieber biopic Never Say Never. But I vaguely remember watching the press junket for this movie and being surprised that there were sceptic journalists who were admitting to enjoying the movie. So it had me curious. I set aside my preconceptions and my lack of interest for the bubblegum pop genre that is Justin Bieber and I decided to go see it.

The People vs the CRTC

On February 3, 2011, in Social Media, by Zaid Rasid

Again, my aim is to not be political on this blog but it would be remiss to not mention another major political decision that has been impacted by Social Media. The CRTC or the Canadian Radio-television Telecommunications Commission is an independent public organization that regulates and supervises the Canadian broadcasting and telecommunications systems. Recently the CRTC has been involved in advocating usage-based internet metering legislation which allows telecommunication companies to charge a fee to any user who exceeds internet bandwidth limits. This proposed legislation has created a lot of controversy

Social Media Revolution

On February 2, 2011, in Social Media, by Zaid Rasid

Prior to starting this blog I created a short video called Social Media Revolution. I used my Macbook air and put together a small production that was a parody of one of the Apple commercials (I am a big Mac fan). I realized that I didn’t have the proper copyrights to upload this video to Youtube so it remains on my computer. You’ll have to contact me directly to see it. The main premise of the video emphasized the power of social media and the recent changes in the way we communicate with each other.

Little did I know, that across the globe an actual Revolution was about to take place.
