My previous comment wasn't directed specifically to What a Sopa-opera but I do agree government control in the US is approaching scary proportions. I heard last month about a bill the US govt was proposing that would put a stop to book blogs, and as an author, I was appalled although I live in Canada. It would still affect me a great deal, and Canada probably isn't too far away from that kind of thinking, either. Fortunately, I also heard subsequently that the bill had been shot down. It may have been promoted by artists and musicians in particular, but you know, if they give us free stuff we'll buy more!

Thanks for listening. It's really scary what's happening and I'm not an old hippy or anything, and I don't do Occupy Wall Street or anything illegal, but Big Brother is definitely turning the corner.

Happy new year to you, too. Zaid. I follow your blog and find it very helpful. Sorry I don't comment more often. I'm sure others find it helpful as well. You might like to check out my blogs at www.kenna-differentfolks.blogspot.com or the above or www.kenna-thescribe.blogspot.com. Any hints I can get for getting more followers, comments, or a better blog content is always appreciated. I like your social conscience.

Comment on What has Google+ become? by Kenna McKinnon

I think you're right in many ways, unfortunately. I'm one of the few who seem active on Google+ but I've noticed Facebook has begun to copy many of G+ features and thus has become better as a result. That in itself is a huge improvement to me as I left FB at one time, just couldn't stand it. I think it's much better now and certainly needed the competition. G+ is too young yet to really judge, I think. And what's wrong with a social media site that caters to specific people, I wonder, except of course Google would want it to be the prevailing site and financial concerns always talk louder than niche. I don't see why it should have to be quantity and not quality but that's the way of the world, I suppose. In short, I think you're right so far, Zaid, but I'd wait and see. I'm grateful myself to have another social media site besides Facebook.

Great point Yaw. Even a co-worker of mine recently told me that she avoids cameras in certain situations in the case they could end up on Facebook. Turns out Facebook is influencing our real lives. Not to mention, there was an individual who was recently fired for posting comments on Facebook about the Vancouver riots that didn't sit well with a lot of people. This person was fired and he wasn't even at the riots.

I think in the next year or so, we're going to have a more intimate look at how Facebook is going to be engrained in our lives.

Interesting point. Does knowing that we're constantly on camera change our behavior? I know that people in my age group (25-30) often request that photos not be put on Facebook. It's a microcosm of the larger problem you described.

@Dustin as I mentioned, I didn't have the time and space to summarize all of the speakers but I will say that your talk on keeping innovation in Canada was motivating. Thanks for that presentation.

@Stephanie, I definitely recommend that you check out a TED event. I know you'll like it:)
